About Safe Harbor

The Mission

Warrior Kids Safe Harbor is a nonprofit initiative focused on providing temporary safe placements for dogs whose guardians are navigating short-term crises.

Situations such as military obligations, medical emergencies, housing instability, or domestic violence transitions can sometimes make it impossible for a person to care for their dog for a period of time.

Safe Harbor exists to ensure that temporary hardship never has to mean permanent separation.

Our goal is simple:
keep dogs safe so families can reunite.

Why Safe Harbor Exists

The idea for Safe Harbor grew out of real situations where dogs were placed at risk simply because their owners needed temporary support.

Too often, people facing difficult moments are forced to surrender their dogs permanently when what they truly need is time and safe temporary care.

Safe Harbor is being designed to provide structured placements where dogs can remain safe while their guardians regain stability.

By focusing on thoughtful placements and reunification, Safe Harbor aims to protect the bond between dogs and the people who love them.

How It Will Work

Safe Harbor will operate through a network of carefully managed placements designed to provide stability and safety for dogs during temporary crises.

Each placement will prioritize:

• the safety and wellbeing of the dog
• responsible guardianship agreements
• a clear path toward reunification whenever possible

The goal is not permanent rehoming — it is support during transition.

Current Phase

Safe Harbor is currently in its founding and development phase.

We are actively working to secure the land, infrastructure, partnerships, and resources needed to begin placements.

The project is being built thoughtfully to ensure that when Safe Harbor opens its doors, it can provide the level of care and stability that dogs and their families deserve.

The Future Of Safe Harbor

As Safe Harbor grows, our long-term vision is to build a network of small satellite campuses that can serve multiple communities.

These campuses will consist of thoughtfully designed dog run facilities — including insulated shipping container units with secure outdoor runs — that provide safe, structured temporary placements for dogs while their guardians navigate short-term crises.

While the primary goal of Safe Harbor will always be reunification, we recognize that some dogs — particularly older dogs or those with special needs — may not always have a clear path back to their original homes or immediate adoption.

For these animals, the long-term vision for Safe Harbor includes the creation of a dedicated sanctuary space.

This sanctuary environment would provide a peaceful and permanent home where dogs who cannot be reunited or easily adopted can live safely and comfortably for the rest of their lives.

As the project grows, Safe Harbor will continue to work closely with partner rescues, shelters, and community organizations to ensure that every dog has the best possible path forward — whether that means reunification, adoption, or lifelong sanctuary care.

Safe Harbor began as an idea rooted in a simple belief:
that the bond between a dog and their person is worth protecting.

Building this project will take time, collaboration, and community support, but every step forward brings the vision closer to reality.

Thank you for being part of the journey.
