Safe Harbor accepts placements through professional referral to ensure safety, clarity, and appropriate fit.

  • Temporary housing instability

  • Domestic violence transition

  • Medical treatment or hospitalization

  • Military deployment or National Guard training obligations

  • Other short-term crisis with a clear reunification timeline

When a referral may be appropriate

  • Temporary situations with a clear path to reunification

  • Dogs that are safe to place in a home environment

  • Guardians who intend to reunite with their dog

Safe Harbor placements are designed for:

  • Permanent surrender

  • Long-term boarding

  • Emergency intake without a referral partner

We review the situation, timeline, and needs of the dog.

Step 3 — Placement Coordination
If appropriate, Safe Harbor coordinates temporary care and reunification planning.
